Water reservoir

We are very lucky that a stream runs past the nursery area. The water comes from the slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro.

To ensure that there is enough water for the tree irrigation even in the dry season, an old water reservoir was restored. Due to the many years of nonuse, the basin deteriorated more and more. Cracks had also formed in the concrete walls, so that the water seeped away without being used.

Due to the repair it is now possible to store approx. 30,000 litres of water in the two basins. But not only the water from the river is collected here; the office building was fitted with a rain pipe. The rainwater collected in this way also flows into the water reservoir.

The stored water is not only used to irrigate the young trees, it also enables us to supply the newly built fishpond with fresh water over and over.
