Bees for Mapendo
A bee project in Shimbwe
What began as a project in April 22 with the planting of 50 native deciduous tree species that serve as bee food trees was continued in August 22. We hung 10 new beehives in the trees for the Mapendo Women Group. This corresponds to traditional beekeeping in Tanzania.
However, to make it easier for the members of the women's group to harvest honey later on, we also set up a beecage on their premises.
As soon as bee colonies settle in the boxes, the hives are moved to a wire hive. Here the boxes are placed on metal tables at a comfortable working height. A lock on the entrance gate prevents unauthorized removal of honey by third parties.
